Enhancing education - employer partnerships

We know that mutually beneficial education-employer partnerships can make a real difference to young people, but currently not all young people are benefiting from them

Highly respected evaluations show that when schools and employers work well together, it makes a real difference to young people. It can

  • significantly enhance understanding and motivation;
  • improve attendance and behaviour;
  • increase aspirations and employability;
  • and improve attainment.

It's no surprise that teachers, employers, parents and young people all enjoy and value work-related learning

Schools have never valued their partnerships with employers more highly

But we know that while teachers want to be more closely involved they are encountering difficulties

We know as well that many employers want to do more, but are not aware of the full opportunities that exist to work with schools and colleges, how to best get involved and the benefits in it for them.

Many local organisations, from the public, private and third sectors, do superb work in helping employers and education get the most from their potential relationships. But best practice isn't always common practice - and there is much to be gained from an improved system.
