Expansion university places failed to benefit poor

Expansion of university places over the last 20 years has failed to benefit the poor says the Institute Social & Economic Research. According to the figures, the proportion of children from relatively well-off backgrounds getting on to degree courses has increased twice as quickly as for pupils with working-class parents.
