"Young People's Career Aspirations"

This seminar discusses what useful insights can be learnt from studying young people's aspirations.  Drawing on an ongoing, five year longitudinal study (funded by the ESRC) of young people's science aspirations from age 10-14, the paper highlights some of the key factors that influence and shape young people's aspirations. Examples are drawn from the first phase of the study, which involved a national survey of over 9,000 pupils and 160 interviews with parents and pupils.
