Anthony Salz
Executive Vice Chairman, Rothschild
Before moving to Rothschild, Anthony Salz was senior partner of
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, a large, London-based,
international law firm. As a lawyer, he specialised in corporate
law, and specifically in cross-border M&A and joint
ventures.
Among many roles, Anthony is a Trustee of the Tate Foundation,
the Eden Project, the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, the Conran
Foundation, the Media Standards Trust, Shine (an educational
charity) and the Royal Opera House. He was for some years a member
of Business in the Community's Business Action on Homelessness
Executive Forum and a member of its Education Leadership team.
Anthony was also Vice Chairman of the BBC Board of Governors
between 2004 and 2006.
Anthony was Co-Chair of the Taskforce Trustees until
December 2010 when he resgined to take up a new role in
government.
Stephen Green
Chairman, HSBC Group plc
Stephen Green was educated at Oxford and Massachusetts Institute
of Technology, and spent his early career with the British
Government's Ministry of Overseas Development and management
consultants' McKinsey & Co.
He joined HSBC in Hong Kong in 1982 with initial responsibility
for corporate planning, before being asked to develop the Group's
global treasury operations. He was appointed to HSBC's Board in
1998, becoming Group Chief Executive in June 2003 and Group
Chairman in May 2006.
Stephen has been Chairman of the British Bankers' Association
since November 2006 and is a member of the Prime Minister's
Business Council for Britain. He is also a trustee of The British
Museum, and an honorary trustee of Peking University.
Stephen resigned from the Taskforce Trustees in December
2010 on becoming ennobled and taking up the role of Minister of
State for Trade and Investment.
Lesley Longstone
Director General of Young People,
Department for Education (until December 2010)
Lesley joined the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) in
August 2001. Initially she was responsible for the Specialist
Schools policy and for Academies. After a brief period as
Director for Secondary Education, she became Bill Manager for the
2004 Higher Education Bill, followed by Director with
responsibility for international work across DfES.
In 2006 she moved to a post with responsibility for the Education
and Inspections Bill and for choice, diversity and fair access in
the schools sector. On the creation of the new Department for
Children, Schools and Families, she became Director General of the
new Young People Directorate which is responsible for ensuring that
all young people make the most of their talents and are able to
succeed in life.
Lesley resigned from the Taskforce Trustees in December
2010 to take up a new role as Director General
of Infrastructure and Funding at the Department for
Education.
Clare Chapman
Director General of Workforce, NHS
As Director General of Workforce, Clare Chapman is responsible
for workforce issues in the NHS and social care system. Clare was
appointed to the position in January 2007.
Clare has more than 20 years of personnel experience in the UK,
USA and Europe. Before joining the Department she was Group
Personnel Director at Tesco. Her previous roles include Vice
President of Human Resources at Pepsi Cola International's Central
Europe Operations offices, and Dean of Quaker University at Quaker
Oats Incorporated, where she established the company's worldwide
learning institute.
