Can employer engagement activities improve academic attainment?

We have recently been awarded funding from the Commercial Education Trust (CET) to investigate the link between participation in career development activities (careers events such as talks or presentations) and improved education outcomes including exam results. In this research we would like to put together evidence that helping young people understand the relevance of what they learn in classroom to their career aspirations in future can have a positive impact on their education outcomes. Our recent research findings show that secondary school teachers think this is achievable through employer engagement activities.

We are hoping to show that through encounters with the world of work young people start seeing the value in education, change their attitudes towards what they are taught in school and become more motivated to study harder which eventually could have an impact on their exam results.
