Your Voice survey presented at OECD’s The Future of Education Conference in Paris

On 3rd December, Education and Employers presented some of the letters from young people that had been submitted as part of the Your Voice survey at OECD’s The Future of Education: Where do we go from here? Conference in Paris. The conference organised by the OECD and the Forum for World Education brought together education leaders “to collaborate in an ambitious and far-reaching conversation about the future of education”. It was preceded by the global release of the OECD PISA (The Programme for International Student Assessment) results 2018.

As part of the presentation ‘Voices from around the world’, Nick Chambers, CEO of Education and Employers, shared the emerging trends from the international survey of secondary school students which asks them about the issues that matter most to them, their career aspirations and concerns about the future. 6,000 young people have already completed the online survey and a number have gone on to expand on their response by writing a letter answering questions which asked them:

  1. What are your career ambitions?
  2. What do you want to achieve in your life and why?
  3. What do you think you need to do to achieve your ambitions?
  4. What are your hopes and fears for the future? What things for example would you most like to see happening/stop happening in the world in the next five years?

We showcased a sample of the letters written by the young people including this one from Julian Nalukwago, a 16 year old girl from the Masaka district in Uganda.

Some of these young people also had the opportunity to attend this prestigious event and were interviewed by Her Royal Highness Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands. And these included Oliver Turan and Kisha Calara from the Harris Academy St John’s Wood in London.

The forum was opened by Jack Ma, Founding Chairman Alibaba, and his keynote address presented his powerful vision for the future of education.  If you are interested to hear the full speech, click:
