‘Designed and Made’ Week announced

As part of the Inspiring the Future programme which gives young people insights into different careers and broadens their horizons we are running a special week (30 June – 4 July) focusing on careers in design and manufacturing.

In celebrating great British design and manufacturing our aim is to encourage far more young people to explore careers in these important economic sectors which employs millions of people in the UK.

Throughout the week people who design and make: airplanes, bicycles, boats, books, cars, ceramics, clocks, clothes, furniture, glassware, high-tech engineering, jewellery, mobile apps, shoes, textiles, websites or whatever requires good design and craftsmanship will be visiting schools across the country talking to young people.

We are teaming up with organisations who represent some of the best in British design and manufacturing – the Royal Warrant Holders Association and the Walpole Group.

The campaign links to our ambition to see apprentices talking in every school about the opportunities apprenticeships provide and to Miriam González Durántez’s Inspiring Women Campaign. We want to put the spotlight on women working in design and manufacturing and a number of highly successful women will be visiting schools across the country that week.
