Inspiring Governance is the online matchmaking service which connects skilled volunteers interested in serving as governors and trustees with schools in England. It also provides free, expert support for volunteers and governing bodies, as well as for employers wanting to run programmes for their staff serving as governors.
Our aims for the service are to:
- Increase the number of volunteers, especially those with business-related skills and with diverse backgrounds, serving as governors and trustees in schools
- Support governors matched through the service with training and resources, helping them be effective members of governing boards
Inspiring Governance is supported and funded by the Department for Education.
It is run by the charity Education and Employers but we work closely with Academy Ambassadors and other key partners.
Governors/schools seeking new recruits
Schools and recruiting governors can register or login here to approach suitable volunteers interested in joining governing boards in their area.

Volunteers seeking to become a governor
To express an interest in becoming a school governor, all you have to do is click here and add a few details about yourself – it takes about 2 to 3 minutes.
Your profile will then appear in searches by head teachers and recruiting governors looking for volunteers in their area that are interested in becoming governors. Your commitment at this stage is simply to spare an hour for an exploratory chat with a school, but the time commitment is likely to be between 5-15 hours a month depending on the needs of the school or college.
