Our Future Derby: An ambitious project reports significant findings when children are exposed to career-related learning (CRL) in primary schools.

The Our Future Derby programme aims to design and deliver innovative career-related learning (CRL) intended to develop a primary schools employer engagement initiative to inform and support children, parents, teachers and volunteers.

Commissioned and funded by the Opportunity Area Board, the programme works in partnership with 32 primary schools across the 7 most disadvantaged wards in Derby and is led by Education and Employers within a unique consortium including Learn by Design, dmh associates, Forum Talent Potential and East Midlands Chamber.

Research led by Dr Deirdre Hughes OBE, in conjunction with Education and Employers, shows compelling early evidence that the programme is already having an impact on increasing pupils’ understanding of the link between education, qualifications and work opportunities – 94% of children agreeing that ‘English and Maths can be useful later in life’.
