Drawing the Future competition – deadline extended!

We have been taken aback by the vast number of entries to the Drawing the Future competition from across the UK and countries ranging from Australia, Belarus, China to Pakistan and Uganda.

And the schools who have taken part have said how quick and easy it was and how much their children got out of it which comments such as this: “The survey promotes to the children the importance of raising aspirations and helps them to develop confidence in thinking and talking about their future aspirations.”

We have been contacted by a number of schools to see if the deadline could be extended to enable them to take part and accommodate the variance in half-term breaks in different parts of the country. We have agreed to this and schools now have until 10th November 2017 to get their entries in.

About the survey

The landmark national survey Drawing the Future launched in partnership with TES, the NAHT and the UCL Institute of Education last week will provide an exciting opportunity to learn more about children’s career aspirations and the factors that may be influencing their choices.

Drawing the Future simply asks children aged 7 to 11 to draw a picture of the job they might want to do when they are older.

All teachers need to do is to ask their children to draw what they want to do, fill out the short school information sheet and send the entries back to us. It’s as easy as that!

The survey will only take schools a few minutes (perhaps done in an assembly or the start of lesson) and should be a fun way to get children thinking about their futures and how the subjects they are studying are relevant to this.

Please send all completed entries, as well as the school cover sheet, by 10th November 2017.
